How to achieve beautiful balayage highlights at home

It’s always exciting to try a new hairstyle, but the fundamental question is how far should you go? Total color change? Permanent? Rainbow stripes? Hair makeovers don’t have to be drastic to look great. If you want bold highlights, we recommend starting with professional tips for choosing highlights that work for you.

There are many coloring techniques, and a very popular highlighting application is called “balayage”. Not only does this technique look natural and add multi-dimensional depth, but it is also very easy and fun to do at home.

Additionally, you can achieve amazing results in a wide range of hair colors, which also allows for balayage for blondes and brunettes.

What is Balayage?

Sometimes confused with hair color or hairstyle, the word “balayage” means “to sweep” in French. This is actually a freehand application technique where you apply strands to your hair to make it look completely natural.

Hair balayage is an excellent technique that adds shine to natural hair in thin or thick stripes. The results are more subtle on previously dyed hair. Balayage is the ultimate in custom highlights because you decide where it goes, as well as the quantity and intensity of the blonde highlights.

Since you can never apply too much lightener with this method, you won’t end up with dark roots as they grow out (unlike foil locks). Balayage breaks the endless cycle of highlighting roots as this technique incorporates darker roots into lighter ends and highlights!

The best way to do balayage

Your balayage kit comes with a unique application brush that makes balayage stress and mess free. Note: Always test with an anti-brass conditioning cloth 48 hours in advance (see package insert).
